The Helsinki-Berlin based Wild Angelicas join forces with London’s Feminist Library in this exhibiton of experimental artworks; performance, sculpture, video, ‘game’ and collage.
Wild Angelicas – named afer a common and robust plant of damp meadows, ditches and wet woodlands – is an artsts group consistng of Maria Duncker, Anne Hiekkaranta, Mimosa Pale, & Niina Lehtonen Braun. For this exhibiton they have proposed a sparkling fountain, installed within an imaginary landscape that creates a stage for poetry, performance and public partcipaton.
HilbertRaum Gallery ofers the Feminist Library a welcome restoratve retreat away from the recent struggles caused by London’s gentrifcaton. The library started as a women’s meetng room 42 years ago. The campsite installaton atempts to refect the spirit of its formatve years, and to capture some of the DIY essence that stll carries on strong today.
This collaboraton brings together women’s art initatves from London and Berlin through telling and retelling her-stories with artworks and ephemera, old and new. The artsts create a haven in which to refect on the lineage of women’s acton while enjoying a cup of tea, partcipatng in making, reading and sharing their individual and collectve experiences.
Feminist Library at HilbertRaum is curated by artst Minna Haukka with partcipants: Astra Blaug (1927-2015), Lisa Carleta, Rachael House, Heidi Kilpeläinen, Eva Megias, Katarzyna Perlak, Emma Thatcher, Sina Sujatha Schwache, Rosalie Schweiker and Maria de Paula-Vazquez.
