A trans feat. Alexandra Spiegel: I’M READY

Juli 30 @ 18:30 - 19:00

Exhibition

31.07.2026 – 17.10.2026     24/7

The analog video still of the work “I’m ready” was created during a carousel ride by Alexandra Spiegel and is reminiscent of the amusement park “West-Eisbahn”, which existed around the Zoo train station in the 19th century.

It does not depict architecture in the classical sense, but rather a photograph of so-called „flying structures“ (*Fliegende Bauten*). It reveals spaces that only emerge through movement—spaces composed of light, memory, friendship, and time. “I’m ready” explores that fleeting moment between holding on and fading away. In doing so, the carousel becomes a metaphor. It connects people with things, bodies with machines, and individuals with a shared experience. Within the circle of motion, a sense of closeness and relationships emerge—connections that are as real as they are ephemeral.

Media scholar Ralf Bohn describes a carousel ride as a transition. In the sense of a dialectical sublation (*Aufhebung*), the existing state is transformed. Movement generates insight; a loss of control opens up new perceptions.

The exhibition title „I’m ready“ is borrowed from the chorus of the song „Zoo Station“, featured on the U2 album “Achtung Baby!” (released in 1991). Recorded in Berlin, the song—like the band’s name itself—refers to the exhibition venue: the Zoologischer Garten station.

Alexandra Spiegel is an architect and artist who lives and works in Berlin, engaging in interdisciplinary practice. Her work is exhibited in art institutions and museums and is represented in various public and private collections.
