ShopShop ist eine Ausstellung, die gleichzeitig ein Laden ist, der wiederum darüber nachdenkt, was es heißt, ein Laden zu sein und eben eine Ausstellung. ShopShop ist zugleich Ort des Handels, des Konsums, des Austauschs – aber auch des Treffens und Verweilens.

Während Editionen, Merchandise und künstlerische Arbeiten, die sich im Assoziationsfeld Shop/Laden bewegen an- und feilgeboten werden, nimmt das Interieur die Herkunft des Begriffs Laden von mittelhochdeutsch lade für „Brett, Bohle, Fensterladen“ in der Inszenierung auf und spielt als Format auf das Mobile und Wandelbare der Ursprünge des Handelns und Verhandelns an.

ShopShop ist ein Traum von einem Laden, multimedial, vielfältig, paradox – ein Ort, an dem Handel auf Handlung trifft und Verbindungen schafft.

ShopShop is a store that wonders what it means to be a store. It is both an exhibition and at the same time a site of trade, consumption, and exchange – but also of gathering, meeting, and staying awhile.

While editions, merchandise, and artworks operating within the associative field of the shop/store are displayed and offered for sale, the staging of the exhibition draws on the etymology of the German word Laden, derived from the Middle High German lade, meaning “board,” “plank,” or “shutter.” In this way, the spatial configuration of the project evokes the mobile and adaptable character of the earliest forms of trading and negotiating.

ShopShop is thus a reimagining of a store: multimedia, manifold, and paradoxical – a place where commercial and artistic agency converge, generating new forms of connection.
